This is how the online registration of your marriage works

You and your partner complete the online form together, choose your preferred date and determine the shared family name.

To use the online services, you may need a BundID with online ID function or a European ID:

Marriage registration	BundID with online ID function or European ID mandatory
Pre-registration of the marriage	BundID optional
Certificate of no impediment to marriage	BundID with online ID function or European ID mandatory
Subsequent marriage certification	BundID with online ID function or European ID mandatory
Marriage certificate / civil partnership certificate	BundID with online ID function or European ID generally not mandatory

Quick appointment booking

If you would like to get married at the registry office responsible for the registration and this registry office has an online appointment system for marriages, you can reserve your preferred date. For registry offices without an online wedding calendar, you can enter your preferred date when registering.

Your chosen date will be sent to the registry office together with your registration. Once your registration has been checked and approved, the date can be booked with binding effect.

Subsequent marriage certification

If you were married abroad and would like to have your marriage entered in a German marriage register, you can use the online service here. The online service is completed by a spouse.

First carry out the quick check to ascertain whether you fulfil all the requirements for the online service.

Then enter your details and upload the required documents. You may have to submit the original documents to the registry office. In this case, your registry office will contact you. You can find more information on subsequent certification here.
